Fresh speculation points to the alien queen Maxima joining Superman's next adventure as both enemy and eventual ally, following James Gunn's dismissal of Wonder Woman casting rumors.

James Gunn's rejection of Wonder Woman rumors for his Superman sequel has sparked fresh speculation about the mysterious female character currently being cast. Industry whispers now point toward Maxima, the alien royal from planet Almerac, as the likely candidate for the warrior role.

Sources suggest this casting search involves specific physical requirements and a "warrior-like" character description. The Superman follow-up hits theaters July 9, 2027, with production starting spring 2026.

Alien Queen's Comic Book Origins

Maxima debuted in Action Comics #645 back in September 1989, created by Roger Stern and George Pérez. She rules as the eldest heir to Almerac's throne, initially seeking Superman as her mate. The character evolved from antagonist to Justice League member over the years.

DC's New 52 reboot introduced a younger Maxima in Supergirl #36 during January 2015. This version became Supergirl's ally while establishing herself as lesbian, creating conflict on her home planet.

Brainiac Connection Fuels Speculation

The 1992 "Panic in the Sky" storyline saw Maxima reluctantly partner with Brainiac before betraying him to join Earth's heroes. If both characters appear in Gunn's film, this comic arc could provide the blueprint.

Such a storyline would unite Superman with the Justice Gang, Supergirl, Lobo, and potentially Peacemaker. The alien warlord's established history with Brainiac makes her a logical choice over Wonder Woman for this particular plot.

Guessing Game Continues

Gunn previously stated that "scoopers are taking a stab at guessing" when Wonder Woman rumors surfaced around the female casting news. Now Maxima emerges as the next candidate in this ongoing speculation cycle.

The alien queen's Brainiac connections should have made her the obvious first guess rather than Wonder Woman. Yet rumors gravitated toward the more recognizable name instead of the character who actually fits the known story elements.
