Anne Hathaway floated a Star Wars role for season 2 of a short-lived Disney+ series

Anne Hathaway has officially tossed her hat into the Star Wars ring, and of all the possible sidekicks or villains she could have pitched herself as, she’s landed on something properly odd: why not team up with Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi? The whole exchange happened while she was out doing promo for her latest film, The End of Oak Street, and—unsurprisingly—she wasted no time in turning the conversation towards a galaxy far, far away.

McGregor being McGregor, he ad-libbed the wildest, oddly fanfic answer you’ll hear this week: what about playing 'sort of Carrie Fisher's secret sister'? It’s the kind of off-the-cuff nonsense you blurt out when you realise, belatedly, that Star Wars continuity is an unholy mess, and you’re on the spot with Anne Hathaway.

McGregor, when Hathaway probed him for a possible role, responded: "You could be sort of Carrie Fisher's secret sister."

Hathaway, channeling the energy of every over-caffeinated fan on Reddit, immediately poked holes in that logic—pointing out that Leia’s mum (that’s Padmé Amidala, in case you’ve skipped the prequels) couldn’t realistically have had another child. She then asked if she might as well just play Anakin’s evil daughter, promptly realising that could actually be quite fun. She went on to say she wouldn’t mind joining Obi-Wan on some sort of 'quest for Yoda,' musing about this hypothetical future storyline with the sort of glee that makes you wonder if she’s been fan-casting herself for years.

Then Hathaway took a cheeky little shot at Josh D'Maro (the Disney exec who’d presumably have to approve this fever dream), urging him to hurry things up. It’s silly, yes.
