Aronofsky and Flynn Unite for a New Dark Erotic Thriller Film
Two masters of suspense, Darren Aronofsky and Gillian Flynn, are joining forces for the first time. Their new project is an untitled film shrouded in mystery, but it's already promising to deliver the intense, modern twists and deep thematic explorations both creators are known for.
Darren Aronofsky is adding another intriguing film to his already packed development slate. The acclaimed director is set to partner with celebrated author Gillian Flynn on an as-yet-untitled erotic thriller. While specific plot points are being kept tightly under wraps, the pairing of these two creative powerhouses strongly suggests a film that will be both sharp and intense. This project marks the first time the director and writer will work together.
A Proven Partnership in the Making
Gillian Flynn is certainly no stranger to successful Hollywood adaptations. She famously penned the screenplay for Steve McQueen’s crime drama _Widows_ and masterfully adapted her own runaway bestseller, _Gone Girl_, for director David Fincher. Her other dark novels, including _Dark Places_ and _Sharp Objects_, have also been succesfully brought to life on both the big and small screens.
Currently, Flynn is also attached to write the script for Tim Burton's highly anticipated reimagining of _Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman_ for Warner Bros. The new Aronofsky collaboration will be produced by 1.21, the same company behind the hit _Elvis_ starring Austin Butler and the horror flick _Together_, which hints at a contemporary and thought-provoking final product.
Exploring New Cinematic Territory
This new venture comes as Aronofsky continues to explore different genres beyond his signature psychological dramas. Regarding his upcoming 2025 film _Caught Stealing_, the publication _Far Out_ observed, “_Caught Stealing_ represents a departure for the filmmaker, and it indicates a desire to show that he has other strings to his bow than traumatic, haunting dramas that hollow out audiences’ souls.”
In that movie, Austin Butler plays Hank Thompson, a New York City bartender who gets unwillingly pulled into a dangerous criminal underworld, all thanks to his punk-rock neighbor, who is portrayed by Matt Smith.
A Slate Packed with Diverse Projects
The director's plate is incredibly full with a variety of other high-profile projects. He is currently developing an A24 film titled _Breakthrough_ with Dwayne Johnson set to star, a modern reboot of the classic horror story _Cujo_ for Netflix, and a much-discussed biopic about Elon Musk, also for A24.
This diverse schedule demonstrates his incredible range, moving far beyond the intense, soul-baring dramas that first made him famous, such as the harrowing addiction tale in _Requiem For A Dream_ and later critical and commercial successes like _Black Swan_, _Mother!_, and _The Whale_.
