Brie Larson’s Skeletons scares up a 2027 release date
Sony Pictures has set Brie Larson’s horror film Skeletons to open nationwide in theaters on June 18, 2027.
Built from Philip Fracassi’s short story “Fail-Safe,” the new creature horror Skeletons centers on a young boy in a seemingly normal household where something dangerous is locked up behind steel bars every night. The family’s routine is airtight. The question is why — and what happens if the ritual slips.
Filming is set to start in June 2026 in Australia, with Sony planning an exclusive big-screen rollout in the U.S. the following summer. Expect a full-on theatrical-first approach before any streaming home arrives.
Exclusive theatrical release: June 4, 2027.
Who’s behind it
J.T. Mollner (Strange Darling) directs from a screenplay by Brian Duffield, with J.J. Abrams producing through Bad Robot. It’s a genre-forward team pairing a filmmaker with a taste for tension and a producer who likes his monsters with mystery baked in.
