Chris Pratt's Tomorrow War Jumps to Peacock in 2026
The sci-fi blockbuster starring Chris Pratt will leave Prime Video for NBCUniversal's streaming platform next year, while fans await news about the highly anticipated sequel currently in development.
Chris Pratt's time-traveling adventure flick is switching streaming homes as NBCUniversal prepares to welcome the action-packed sci-fi thriller to its Peacock platform. Starting New Year's Day 2026, viewers will need to head over to Peacock if they want to catch this divisive yet popular blockbuster that originally launched exclusively on Amazon's Prime Video service.
From Amazon to NBCUniversal
The shift represents a significant move in the streaming wars, as Amazon Studios' big-budget production finds a new digital home. Chris McKay, known for directing The Lego Batman Movie, made his live-action debut with this ambitious project that cost a whopping $200 million to produce. The film originally had theatrical distribution plans through Paramount Pictures, but the pandemic forced a pivot to streaming-only release.
Despite mixed reviews from critics who gave it a lukewarm 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences embraced the high-concept adventure with a much more favorable 76% approval rating. The movie proved its streaming power by attracting 2.41 million households during its debut week on Prime Video back in July 2021.
Plot and Cast Details
The story centers on Dan Forester, a biology teacher and former Green Beret played by Pratt, who gets pulled into an extraordinary conflict spanning decades. Visitors from 2051 arrive in present day with an urgent mission: recruit soldiers and civilians to battle a lethal alien species that threatens to wipe out humanity's future.
Pratt shares the screen with an impressive ensemble including Yvonne Strahovski as a brilliant scientist, J.K. Simmons as his estranged father, and Betty Gilpin. The supporting cast features Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, Jasmine Mathews, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Keith Powers. Together, they navigate the complexities of time travel while fighting for survival against otherworldly enemies.
Sequel Plans Moving Forward
Amazon Studios isn't done with this franchise yet. A follow-up film is actively being developed, with McKay confirming that progress is being made and the project is "happening relatively soon." The director has praised Pratt's performance, highlighting both the emotional depth and comedic timing the actor brought to the role as key elements for the continuing story.
While specific plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, Amazon clearly sees potential in building a larger franchise around Pratt's character. The original film's 138-minute runtime and PG-13 rating helped it appeal to a broad audience, combining action, science fiction, and adventure elements written by Zach Dean and produced by an impressive team including David S. Goyer, Jules Daly, Dana Goldberg, David Ellison, Don Granger, and Adam Kolbrenner.
