The Flash screenwriter Christina Hodson has been tapped to write The Brave and the Bold, marking the first major progress on the DCU Batman film since Andy Muschietti came aboard as director.

Christina Hodson has officially signed on to write The Brave and the Bold for the DCU. This represents the biggest step forward for the project since Andy Muschietti was brought in to direct. Hodson brings extensive DC experience to the table, having worked on Margot Robbie's Birds of Prey and collaborating with Muschietti on The Flash, which went through multiple script revisions during the DCEU's turbulent final years.

Sources suggest Hodson joined the project last fall. Another insider warns that a finished script could take considerable time, which aligns with recent comments from James Gunn about the project's timeline.

DCU Batman Won't Interfere with Reeves' Sequel

Don't expect this new Batman movie anytime soon. Matt Reeves' The Batman 2 is scheduled to begin filming in spring 2026, and Gunn has made it clear he won't rush his own Dark Knight project.

Addressing fan concerns on Threads, Gunn explained they're waiting for a workable script. This matches the DCU chief's consistent approach of putting writers first before greenlighting any project. With The Batman 2 hitting theaters next year, Gunn stated he has no plans to "cloud the Batsphere."

"I think both Batman and WW are incredibly important. But I'm also not going to have two Batman movies come out in the same year."

The positive news? With a writer now attached, expect momentum to build once Reeves' sequel reaches theaters.

Hodson's Batman History Runs Deep

Hodson's DC portfolio extends beyond her known credits. She actually wrote two other Batman-related projects that never made it to screens.

The Bumblebee writer penned scripts for the shelved Batgirl movie, which had completed post-production before getting canceled. She also developed a Batman Beyond project that would have featured Michael Keaton as an aging Bruce Wayne. Studio executives reportedly praised her Batman Beyond script highly.

The regime change at DC Studios killed both projects along with other DCEU remnants. Fans hope The Brave and the Bold avoids similar fate while delivering something different from Reeves' take on the character.

The Batman 2 releases October 1, 2027.
