Disney confirms Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim will lead the live-action Tangled adaptation, with Michael Gracey directing and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson writing the script for the highly anticipated remake.

Disney has officially announced the lead casting for its upcoming live-action version of Tangled. Teagan Croft will portray Princess Rapunzel, while Milo Manheim takes on the role of Flynn Rider in the studio's latest animated-to-live-action conversion.

The story centers on a princess locked away in a tower who breaks free with assistance from a charming thief. Their journey across the kingdom sparks an unexpected romantic connection between the two characters.

New Faces Replace Original Voice Cast

Croft and Manheim step into roles previously brought to life by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the 2010 animated version. Reports suggested Scarlett Johansson was considering the antagonist role of Mother Gothel, famous for the memorable song 'Mother Knows Best'. The Black Widow star ultimately passed on the opportunity, leaving the villain's casting still undetermined.

Both young actors bring previous experience to their new Disney roles. Croft gained recognition through the DC series Titans and the Australian drama True Spirit. Manheim built his resume with Disney Channel's Zombies franchise and Paramount+'s supernatural series School Spirits.

Creative Team and Production Details

Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman, will helm the project. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson penned the screenplay, though specific plot modifications remain confidential. Disney temporarily halted development following the disappointing box office performance of their Snow White remake, which starred Rachel Zegler opposite Gal Gadot.

The original animated film generated approximately $592 mn globally against a substantial $260 mn production budget. Walt Disney Animation considered it a major triumph. The movie also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song with 'I See the Light'.
