Curious about My Brilliant Career on Netflix? Release date, cast, plot inside
Netflix is rolling out a new take on a classic novel—get the scoop on the cast, plot, trailer, and how to stream it.
Netflix is turning Miles Franklin’s classic into a six-episode limited series and dropping the whole thing in one go. Filmed across South Australia and produced by Jungle Entertainment, the adaptation keeps the 1900 rural setting and zeroes in on the push-pull between independence and romance that’s made the book endure for more than a century.
All six episodes stream worldwide on Netflix on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
What it’s about
Set in 1900, My Brilliant Career follows Sybylla, a sharp, stubborn teenager who wants to be a writer instead of the dutiful wife her family expects. Her resolve is tested when she falls for Harry, forcing a choice between the life she imagined and the one everyone else wants for her. The official trailer leans into sweeping Australian landscapes, crisp period detail and Sybylla’s wit, while highlighting themes of self‑determination, feminism and identity.
The story returns to screens after the celebrated 1979 film adaptation, this time as a bingeable series that promises a fresh energy without ditching the period bones.
