Curtis Lum has joined two shows at once: ABC's The Rookie: North and season three of Prime Video's Cross, per Deadline.

The Rookie: North is the franchise's newest expansion, introducing Alex Holland — played by Jay Ellis — a man who decided his midlife didn't warrant a crisis and joined a police force instead. Lum's role hasn't been detailed.

Cross, based on James Patterson's Alex Cross novels, returns for a third season on Prime Video.

Why this keeps happening

Lum has been a working Vancouver actor for years, with The Night Agent and The Audacity among his recent credits, and the current production landscape rewards exactly this kind of career: reliable, versatile, and available in a city where an enormous share of North American television is shot.

Two series in one announcement is the modern version of a very good week.

The Rookie franchise now has three shows in it, which is the sort of quiet expansion that happens when a procedural performs steadily for a decade and nobody makes a fuss about it.
