Finn Wolfhard Hints at More Richie Tozier Appearances in Welcome to Derry
The Stranger Things star opens up about his surprise cameo in the horror series finale and teases what fans can expect next from his iconic character.
Following Richie Tozier's unexpected appearance in the Welcome to Derry season finale, Finn Wolfhard has dropped hints that audiences haven't seen the last of his beloved character from the It franchise. The season closer featured a chilling scene where Pennywise confronts Marge Truman, who viewers learn will become Maggie Tozier in the future. The demonic clown reveals she'll bear a son named Richie - presumably honoring Rich Santos following his brave sacrifice that saved Marge during The Black Spot incident - who will eventually destroy Pennywise alongside his companions.
The sinister entity emphasizes this prophecy by dramatically displaying Richie's missing person flyer from Neibolt Street, which appeared in the original It movie and showcased Wolfhard's photograph.
Actor Knew About Cameo Years in Advance
During a recent conversation with Esquire, Wolfhard disclosed that he was aware of his cameo well before filming began. The actor also suggested that additional content featuring his character might be coming down the pipeline. "I knew that years ago, actually. When they first started thinking about that show, it was probably 2021," Wolfhard explained. "Barbara and Andy Muschietti both told me, 'You're involved.' Yeah, I'm connected. I think there's something else that will come up eventually that I'm excited for people to see."
Future Possibilities for the Character
While specific details about Richie Tozier's potential future involvement remain unclear, the revelation that Pennywise understands the circumstances surrounding his own demise opens intriguing possibilities. The evil entity might attempt to locate additional members of the Truman or Tozier families during the planned second and third seasons of Welcome to Derry. However, the show's continuation depends on official approval, as only the initial season has received the green light so far.
Whether these potential storylines will include another appearance by Wolfhard himself remains uncertain. The actor recently completed filming Stranger Things season 5, which concluded with an emotionally charged finale that wrapped up the beloved Netflix series.
