Warner Bros taps the screenwriter behind 2023's box office disaster for their upcoming Dark Knight reboot, raising questions about DC's creative direction.

Warner Bros has selected Christina Hodson to pen the screenplay for The Brave and the Bold, marking a surprising choice given her connection to one of DC's biggest commercial failures. Hodson wrote The Flash, which crashed at theaters in 2023 and marked the end of the previous DC movie era.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, though DC Studios hasn't made any official statements about the hiring decision. This move reunites Hodson with director Andy Muschietti, who helmed The Flash and has been attached to the Batman project since its initial announcement.

Production Timeline Remains Unclear

James Gunn, DC Studios co-CEO, has insisted on having polished scripts ready before greenlighting any projects. He's indicated that The Brave and the Bold won't enter full production until after The Batman: Part Two hits theaters in 2027, avoiding any potential scheduling conflicts.

The decision to wait makes strategic sense. Robert Pattinson's Batman sequel needs breathing room, and rushing another Dark Knight film could create audience confusion.

Creative Team Raises Eyebrows

Industry watchers are questioning the wisdom of doubling down on The Flash's creative team. That film's spectacular box office collapse effectively killed the previous DC universe, despite featuring Michael Keaton's return as Batman.

Muschietti has found success in horror with his It films. Maybe that darker sensibility could work better with Gotham's brooding atmosphere than it did with The Flash's multiverse chaos. The Batman franchise certainly offers more room for the moody, atmospheric storytelling that made his horror work effective.

No release date has been announced for The Brave and the Bold. The project joins a growing slate of DC films in various stages of development as the studio rebuilds its superhero universe from the ground up.
