The latest installment in the animatronic horror series doesn't just end when the credits roll. Two crucial stingers reveal major clues about the future of the franchise, hinting at the return of a legendary villain and a desperate message from the past. What do these cryptic moments mean for Mike and Abby?

Director Emma Tammi and creator Scott Cawthon have dramatically expanded the series' mythology with Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. Following a game-changing finale for Mike Schmidt and his sister Abby, the movie leaves viewers with plenty of new mysteries. But as fans know, the most significant revelations are often saved for after the main story concludes.

A Familiar Fright in the Mid-Credits Scene

The film features a major scene midway through the credits. It begins on a dark, stormy night as a crew of scavengers forces their way into the crumbling remains of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Their goal isn't simple theft; they're gathering old props and animatronic components to create a horror attraction, a clear setup for the events of Fazbear’s Fright.

While searching the decaying building, one of them discovers a hidden room that was never on the original floor plans. The camera moves into this sealed-off safe room, revealing the lifeless figure of William Afton, slumped in the corner inside a tattered yellow rabbit costume. As the scavengers get closer, Aftons eye suddenly springs open, shining with an eerie purple light. A terrible, distorted noise, both robotic and human, escapes from the suit just before the screen cuts to black.

An Ominous Message After the Credits

There is also a final stinger after all the credits have finished, though this one is audio only. Against a black screen, the sound of an old cassette player turning on is heard. The voice of Henry Emily cuts through the static, delivering a panicked message meant for Mike. "I couldn’t save you then, so let me save you now," he says, his voice shaking. "Don’t go back. It’s not…" He stops short, crying out that the Marionette is coming for him before the tape abruptly shuts off, plunging the theater back into silence.

Piecing Together the Clues for a Third Movie

These scenes provide a clear roadmap for where the franchise is headed. The mid-credits sequence all but guarantees that a third film will adapt the Fazbear’s Fright storyline, bringing back William Afton as the iconic villain Springtrap. His reawakening signals the start of the series' most famous antagonist arc.

The audio clip is even more critical for those invested in the lore. It confirms Henry Emily is aware of the ongoing threat and is trying to help. The mention of the Marionette implies that the spirit of his daughter, Charlotte, remains a powerful and dangerous force, setting the stage for a heartbreaking conflict in the next movie.
