Following the massive success of the Zootopia sequel, star Ginnifer Goodwin is opening up about the long-running fan debate over Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. The actress shared her candid thoughts on their on-screen chemistry and what their unique bond could mean for the future of the franchise.

With Zootopia 2 dominating the box office, Ginnifer Goodwin is finally weighing in on one of the most persistent questions from fans: what is the real nature of the relationship between Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde? The sequel turned up the heat on their chemistry, leading many to wonder if a love story was unfolding on screen.

A Future Beyond Friendship?

Goodwin didn't shy away from the topic, offering her perspective on the ongoing discussion about whether the duo's connection is romantic or purely platonic. She emphasized that Disney films often celebrate love in its many forms, leaving the interpretation of Judy and Nick's bond up to the audience.

What I love most about Disney is that all different types of love are celebrated. Just like how “Frozen” is a celebration of sibling love, whatever people glean from “Zootopia” is valid. We made this movie for the public, so do with it what you will.

The actress, who voices Judy Hopps, also shared a funny inside joke with her co-star Jason Bateman, who plays Nick. They've apparently discussed what the offspring of a fox and a bunny might be called.

The only thing I will say is that Jason Bateman and I joked about what kind of creature would emerge from Judy and Nick as an offspring, and he pointed out that a fox and a bunny make a “Funny.”

Expanding the World of Zootopia

Looking ahead, Goodwin expressed her excitement for a potential Zootopia 3. When asked about her vision for Judy and Nick's next chapter, she said she's eager to explore new environments and meet different kinds of species. She admitted that during the making of the first movie, she hadn't even considered possibilities like semi-aquatic animals or birds, but now sees a universe ripe with potential.

There are other worlds that I would love to see explored, because it didn’t even occur to me when we were making the first one, like, “What about the semi-aquatic animals?” If you stayed for the post-credit scene of Zootopia 2, we introduced another world with a new type of animal. I wouldn’t even pretend to be able to predict what it is that they’ll do with Zootopia 3.

While she didn't confirm any specific plans, Goodwin is clearly on board with taking the story into uncharted territory. She expressed complete trust in the creative team to evolve the world in a surprising and entertaining way.

Decoding the Post-Credits Tease

The creators of Zootopia 2 have also shed some light on that mysterious post-credits feather. For those who stayed, the scene shows a single, large feather floating down to land next to Judy's carrot pen. Director Jared Bush explained that this moment was designed to spark curiosity and signal that the world of Zootopia is far larger than the city viewers know.

Well, I think that there are limitless numbers of stories to tell in the world of Zootopia. I think that this is something that hopefully, when audiences see it, will get them excited about what that could be, what that actually means, and what mystery may lie ahead.

Producer Yvett Merino echoed this, stating that the city is just one part of a much larger continent, leaving the door open for countless new species, cultures, and environments to be discovered.

Exactly. Zootopia was always created as an area on a continent in a world. So, if you think of it that way, you never know what’s going to happen.

So far, the franchise has yet to explore entire categories of animals, including insects, fish, and common domesticated pets like cats and dogs. While the feather strongly suggests an avian adventure is on the horizon, future installments could take audiences anywhere—from the skies to new lands or entirely different cities.
