Guy Pearce Quits Social Media After Sharing Anti-Israel "Falsehoods"
Following intense criticism for his online activity supporting Palestine, actor Guy Pearce has made a significant public statement. He is now taking drastic measures to address the controversy, but what exactly did he share that caused such an uproar and forced him to retreat from the public eye?
Actor Guy Pearce has issued a formal apology after acknowledging he spread “misinformation and falsehoods” about Israel through his online activity. While voicing support for Palestine, the star admitted to sharing problematic content and addressed the controversy in a public statement. “It has been brought to my attention that, in my support of Palestine, I have inadvertently re-posted articles, and/or statements, that have contained misinformation and falsehoods,” Pearce explained. He expressed deep remorse for the consequences of his actions. “I am aware how sharing inaccurate content can cause confusion and distress; for this I am deeply sorry. I will certainly endeavour to be more diligent in future to verify anything I share online.”
A Closer Look at the Shared Content
The controversy stems from several posts the actor shared with his followers. Some of the material reportedly originated from polarizing figures, including far-right political commentator Nick Fuentes. The shared content allegedly included baseless conspiracy theories, such as claims blaming Israel for the 9/11 terrorist attacks and for the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Another post that drew significant criticism reportedly claimed that the “top three pornography companies are owned by Jewish people.” In addition, another shared message from earlier this month took aim at Zionists, stating, “Remember, when Zionists tell you Islam will destroy America… While several major Las Vegas casinos/hotels that have caused gambling addictions, debt and prostitution were created and owned by Jewish Zionists… The Zionists (not Jews) want you to fear the people who stand against the corruption they are creating.”
A Retreat from the Public Eye
Following the intense backlash, Pearce has decided to completely withdraw from online discourse for the foreseeable future. In a follow-up message posted on X, he confirmed his intentions and reiterated his apology. “Earlier this week, I issued an apology for sharing misleading and inaccurate posts and commentary on social media,” he wrote. The actor stressed that his apology required tangible action, concluding, “I meant every word of that apology but I recognize that meaningful action must accompany any apology. To prevent any further hurt, confusion or damage to others, I will be stepping back from social media for the time being.”
