Before becoming a household name, the Australian actor had a tiny uncredited part in Johnny Depp's final Pirates adventure that most fans never noticed.

Most people know Jacob Elordi from his breakout performance in Euphoria or his romantic lead in The Kissing Booth series. But his acting career actually started in a much bigger franchise than anyone realizes.

The Australian actor made his screen debut in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales back in 2017. He played an unnamed British Redcoat in the fifth Pirates movie, though his role went completely uncredited. Most viewers had no idea the future star was even in the film.

The Final Pirates Adventure

Dead Men Tell No Tales marked Johnny Depp's last outing as Captain Jack Sparrow. The movie brought back several franchise veterans including Geoffrey Rush and Kevin McNally. Javier Bardem joined as the main villain, while Kaya Scodelario played a new female lead.

Directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg took over from previous filmmakers. Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films produced the adventure, which hit theaters on May 26, 2017. Critics weren't kind, giving it just 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences were more forgiving at 60%.

From Uncredited Extra to Award Winner

Elordi's career trajectory since that small Pirates role has been remarkable. His latest project, Frankenstein, just earned him major recognition at the 2026 Critics' Choice Awards. He won Best Supporting Actor for playing the monster in Guillermo del Toro's adaptation.

The competition was fierce. Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn were both nominated for One Battle After Another. Paul Mescal got a nod for Hamnet, while Adam Sandler earned recognition for Jay Kelly. Stellan Skarsgård rounded out the category for Sentimental Value.

What's Next for the Rising Star

Elordi's upcoming Wuthering Heights promises to be anything but conventional. He'll star opposite Margot Robbie in this contemporary take on Emily Brontë's gothic novel. The film splits the story into three acts instead of the traditional two, borrowing from Greek tragedy structure.

He plays Heathcliff to Robbie's Catherine Earnshaw in what's described as an intense, destructive love story set on the Yorkshire moors. The movie hits theaters February 13, 2026, and early buzz suggests it won't be your typical romance.
