Amazon Prime Video has put an end to weeks of speculation by officially announcing Sigourney Weaver's participation in the upcoming Tomb Raider television series starring Sophie Turner. Weaver takes on the role of Evelyn Wallis, a brand-new character portrayed as a "mysterious, high-flying woman" who wants to take advantage of Lara Croft's worldwide adventures.

The streaming giant also revealed ten additional cast members joining the production. Celia Imrie will portray Francine, the head of the British Museum, while Paterson Joseph steps into the role of Thomas Warner, a senior government official. Martin Bobb-Semple brings James 'Zip' Whitman to life, Lara's technology expert and friend.

Familiar Faces and Game Connections

Bill Paterson takes on Winston Smith, the longtime Croft family butler. Jason Isaacs, known for his work in the Harry Potter films, will play Atlas de Mornay, Lara's uncle. This character has previously appeared in Tomb Raider video games and comic books, suggesting the show draws inspiration from multiple franchise sources.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge works as co-showrunner with Chad Hodge, while Jonathan Van Tulleken handles directing duties. Waller-Bridge shared her enthusiasm about bringing both beloved characters and fresh faces to the screen, describing the assembled cast as "beyond my wildest dreams."

Franchise Reinvention Plans

The series plans to completely reinvent the franchise on a grand scale while establishing connections to the video games through unified storytelling. This approach suggests a comprehensive strategy to bridge different media formats within the Tomb Raider universe.

Production continues to move forward as fans eagerly wait for additional updates about the show's development and release timeline.
