John Cena's Four Upcoming Movies After WWE Farewell
Following his final WWE match on December 13th, the wrestling legend transitions to Hollywood with four major film projects lined up, including animated comedy and action features.
Wrestling fans witnessed the end of an era on December 13th when John Cena stepped into the WWE ring for the final time during Saturday Night's Main Event. After losing to Gunther, the 17-time world champion officially closed the book on his legendary wrestling career. With his days of body slams and championship belts behind him, Cena can now focus entirely on his growing Hollywood presence.
Warner Bros Animation Adventure
The most anticipated project on Cena's slate is "Coyote vs. Acme," a Warner Bros hybrid animation feature that was previously shelved but now has an official release date of August 28, 2026. Footage from this long-awaited film was shown at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con, giving fans their first glimpse of what's to come.
The story centers on Wile E. Coyote taking legal action against the Acme Corporation for consistently providing defective products that fail during his endless pursuit of the Road Runner. Cena takes on the role of Acme's defense attorney, going head-to-head against the frustrated cartoon character and Will Forte's legal team.
Toy-Based Action and Comedy Projects
Apple Original Films has tapped Cena to star in "Matchbox," a live-action feature based on Mattel's famous toy car line. Director Sam Hargrave will helm the project, with screenwriters David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper crafting the script. While plot details remain confidential, Cena will take the leading role in this adaptation.
Netflix has also secured Cena for "Little Brother," a comedy where he plays a successful real estate professional whose organized life gets completely disrupted when his younger sibling, portrayed by Eric André, suddenly returns. Director Matt Spicer will guide this production, with Michelle Monaghan joining the cast. The streaming platform hasn't announced a release timeline yet.
Secret Agent Comedy
Cena's fourth upcoming project pairs him with Kevin Hart in "The Leading Man," another Netflix production based on a comic book series by Jeremy Haun and B. Clay Moore. The Jon and Erich Hoeber screenplay tells the story of an egotistical movie star who discovers his co-star is actually a covert operative on a world-saving mission.
Both Cena and Hart will serve as producers on this action-comedy, which promises to blend Hollywood satire with espionage thrills. The film represents another collaboration between major streaming platforms and established action stars looking to expand their comedic range.
