Jordan's Gracious Loss to Chalamet Steals Critics' Choice Spotlight
The Sinners star's reaction to losing Best Actor became almost as talked-about as the winner himself. Cameras captured every moment of disappointment and grace.
The buzz around Timothée Chalamet's Critics' Choice Awards victory might have competition. Michael B. Jordan's response to Kate Hudson calling out Chalamet's name for Best Actor has people talking just as much.
Jordan handled defeat with class, smiling and applauding his competitor despite visible disappointment. The Sinners star glanced toward Chalamet's table, where the winner sat with girlfriend Kylie Jenner, before joining the celebration.
Cameras caught Jordan looking somewhat downcast as Chalamet thanked his fellow nominees. The melancholy expression seemed justified given the circumstances.
Chalamet's Gracious Victory Speech
After embracing Jenner and director Josh Safdie, Chalamet took the stage to accept his trophy. The young actor appeared overwhelmed, struggling to find words initially.
He started by acknowledging his competition: "Leo, staring straight at you, man. Joel, Ethan, we used to do table reads at Labrynth Theatre Group in New York...Wagner, Michael...just rewatched 'Sinners'..."
The Marty Supreme star continued thanking his team, including Safdie, who appeared emotional watching his lead actor receive recognition. Chalamet then singled out Jordan again: "Michael, I love your work, man."
His speech concluded with heartfelt words for his longtime partner: "Lastly, I'll just say, thank you to my partner of three years. Thank you for our foundation. I love you. I couldn't do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart." Jenner was seen mouthing "I love you" back from the audience.
Record-Breaking Win
Chalamet's victory for his portrayal of Marty Mauser made history. At 30 years old, he became the youngest Best Actor winner in Critics' Choice Awards history.
The other nominees included Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Joel Edgerton for Train Dreams, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.
Reflecting on his recent recognition, including Oscar nominations for Call Me by Your Name and A Complete Unknown, Chalamet shared: "It's been great. You know, it's been awesome. I feel like I'm living in a dream. I'm on top of a fancy hotel in London and talking about a film I'm deeply passionate about."
