Keeping sweat-free? Robert Pattinson calls it “physically impossible” on Dune: Part Three
Robert Pattinson says Dune: Part Three’s extreme desert heat made the shoot a punishing workout—and what it put his body through might surprise you.
Working under layers of prosthetics in desert heat, Robert Pattinson says his transformation for Dune: Part Three came with one basic instruction that was nearly impossible to follow: don’t sweat. In a clip shared by Variety on Instagram, he describes shooting in blistering conditions while encased in facial appliances and latex that trapped heat.
“You can't sweat because it ruins makeup, and I'm like, 'Okay, Ahh, this is physically impossible!'”
Pattinson recalled the sun beating down so intensely that even shoes started to soften on the ground. The combination of scorching temperatures and suffocating gear, he said, turned simple movements into a workout and made keeping the prosthetics intact a constant battle.
To keep cast and crew from baking, production began in July at Origo Studios in Budapest so they could use air‑conditioned soundstages at the peak of summer. The team then shifted outdoors to the Liwa Desert in Abu Dhabi and Wadi Rum in Jordan later in the fall to avoid the worst of the heat, according to Pattinson.
What the trailer shows
A new look at the Denis Villeneuve film points to a time jump — the story picks up 17 years after Paul Atreides took the throne — and lays out where the power struggles are headed. Chani is openly furious about betrayal, Alia Atreides is wielding frightening abilities, and Pattinson appears as the shape‑shifter Scytale, set on upending the ruling order.
- Paul Atreides — caught in a radiation blast, left blind, his prescience intensifying as Fremen tradition pushes him toward desert exile.
- Chani — voicing her anger over what she sees as a deep betrayal.
- Alia Atreides — unleashing unnerving, otherworldly power.
- Robert Pattinson — taking on Scytale, a calculating shape‑shifter aiming to topple the dynasty.
- Jason Momoa — returning as Hayt, a resurrected clone quietly plotting against a former ally.
- Edric — a mutated Guild Navigator suspended in a tank and maneuvering the political collapse.
Those story beats arrive alongside Pattinson’s on‑set recollections, which underline how much of the sequel’s intrigue was built in real desert locations. Filming, he said, kicked off in Budapest before moving to Abu Dhabi and Jordan in the autumn months to dodge peak summer temperatures.
