Ludacris Returns to Action in New Comedy from Novocaine Directors
The Fast & Furious star teams up with Dan Berk and Robert Olsen for Universal Pictures' upcoming Limited Edition, his first action role since Fast X.
The creative team behind 2025's breakout hit Novocaine is gearing up for their next project. Dan Berk and Robert Olsen will write and direct Limited Edition, bringing Fast & Furious veteran Ludacris back to action cinema.
Universal Pictures Partnership Continues
Universal Pictures and 87North are developing the new action comedy through their ongoing first-look agreement. This partnership has already delivered high-octane films including Nobody, Violent Night, and The Fall Guy.
Kelly McCormick and David Leitch are producing through 87North's deal with Universal. Braden Aftergood, who recently joined 87North after co-founding Sylvester Stallone's Balboa Productions, will produce and oversee the project from start to finish. Jay Polidoro and Tony Ducret are handling the same duties at Universal.
Ludacris Steps Into Leading Role
This marks Ludacris's first action project since 2023's Fast X and his first role overall since the Disney+ holiday comedy Dashing Through the Snow. The rapper-turned-actor has appeared in seven Fast & Furious movies as Tej Parker, becoming a central figure in Dominic Toretto's crew alongside Roman Pearce.
His filmography spans beyond blockbuster action. Ludacris has taken on dramatic roles in Crash and Hustle & Flow, showcasing his range as a performer. Limited Edition positions him as a leading man while building on his action credentials.
Building on Novocaine's Success
Berk and Olsen earned widespread praise for Novocaine, which many consider among 2025's finest action films. Jack Quaid starred as Nathan "Nate" Caine, a mild-mannered bank executive with Congenital Insensitivity to Pain who can't feel physical discomfort. This unusual condition becomes crucial when criminals kidnap the woman he loves.
The film breathed new life into action comedy by twisting familiar formulas and avoiding predictable storylines. Plot details for Limited Edition remain confidential, but the talent involved suggests another fresh take on the genre.
