Marvel Cut A Big Spider-Man And Daredevil Team-Up From An MCU Film
A Netflix Daredevil star says a Spider-Man: Brand New Day cameo linking Hell’s Kitchen to Queens nearly happened, revealing as much in a new interview.
Well, here’s a bit of superhero movie trivia for you: Spider-Man: Brand New Day nearly gave us a proper MCU-meets-Netflix crossover moment, and then promptly chopped it out of the final cut. If you were ever hanging on for a return of Clare Temple – the nurse who patched up battered vigilantes right across the Marvel Netflix shows – you were closer than you think. As it turns out, Rosario Dawson was actually on set and filmed her bit for the film, only for it not to see the light of day.
While appearing at GalaxyCon, Rosario Dawson explained: 'I even shot a scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out.'
The Scene That Nearly Was
You might recognise Dawson's Clare Temple from Daredevil, where she was the long-suffering but ever-capable medic to New York City’s masked bruisers. She didn't just stick to Matt Murdock, either – Clare ended up helping Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and even dropped in on The Defenders at one point. But despite all the returning faces in Disney’s new Daredevil: Born Again, she’s been noticeably absent from the MCU batch. This cameo would’ve fixed that, but the powers that be decided otherwise.
There’d been a few whispers last year (courtesy of Daniel Richtman, if you follow the rumour mill), claiming Dawson was all set for a comeback as Clare in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Turns out those leaks were truly on the money, only for her bit to fall at the last hurdle. With Dawson confirming things herself on stage, we now know the scene made it as far as being filmed before it got axed. No Clare Temple for the MCU, at least not yet.
Brand New Day’s MCU Line-up
This upcoming Spider-Man flick is already front-loaded with returning faces and cameos. Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, of course, while Zendaya (MJ), Jacob Batalon (Ned), and Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk) are all along for the ride. Also, if you’ve been missing the rough edges, Jon Bernthal pops up as Frank Castle/The Punisher in what’s been described as an 'essential' cameo, so Frank fans get a win.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into cinemas this week, with a UK release set for 31 July 2026.
Bit of a missed opportunity for proper MCU/Netflix universe closure, if you ask me, but there we are. The search for Clare Temple in the Marvel reboot marches on.
