Sharon Carter's journey from loyal agent to the shadowy Power Broker left fans with a massive cliffhanger. But with her sudden absence from the MCU's latest chapter, a bigger question emerges: Is Marvel setting up an even more sinister plot for its deadliest new villain?

Sharon Carter has long been a pivotal figure in the Captain America saga. She wasn't just an agent; she briefly became a love interest for Steve Rogers. However, the most significant turn for Emily VanCamp’s character arrived at the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

While she always had a rebellious streak, seen in both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, her true villainous side was unveiled in the Disney+ series. A post-credit scene showed Carter on the phone, ready to sell government secrets to the highest bidder. This moment seemed to lay the groundwork for a major storyline in the next Captain America film. Yet, to the disappointment of her fans, she was nowhere to be found in 2025's Captain America: Brave New World.

A Villain's Revenge

Sharon Carter isn't likely to stay quiet for long, especially after the reveal in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. It turned out she was the Power Broker, a notorious dealer on the black market for stolen technology and state secrets. Now that she has been pardoned and regained her government access, her power has grown exponentially.

Interestingly, it’s not just Agent 13 who has been missing from recent Marvel projects—Hydra has also been conspicuously absent. Could there be a connection? It seems unlikely that Kevin Feige and the studio would sideline two such influential forces without a reason. Perhaps they are being held back for a much larger scheme.

The Captain Hydra Connection

One theory suggests Hydra is orchestrating a major comeback, with their sights set on the disgraced U.S. Agent, John Walker. Instead of Steve Rogers becoming Captain Hydra as he did in the comics, this new super-soldier could be manipulated into taking on the mantle. What if Carter, operating independently of Hydra, is simply looking to profit from their plans by selling them the necessary assets for their Captain Hydra Project?

While these two villainous forces have kept their distance from the heroes lately, they could resurface in the massive upcoming event, Avengers: Doomsday. The Avengers might not only face Doctor Doom but also a formidable new threat in the form of a U.S. Agent twisted into Captain Hydra.

A Gateway to the Mutants

The shocking reveal also confirmed that Carter was running the black market in Madripoor, a location well-known to Marvel Comics readers. Madripoor is famously where Wolverine once took refuge, operating under the alias Patch during the 1980s. The MCU has already hinted at Wolverine's existence in She-Hulk, so it's highly plausible that Carter is already aware of this particular mutant.

Her connections in the lawless city could serve as the perfect entry point for introducing the 616 version of the X-Men during the Mutant Saga or a future Avengers vs. X-Men storyline. Carter's activities in Madripoor might just be the key that unlocks a whole new corner of the Marvel universe.
