Marvel's Third Wakanda Film Gets Official Title and Production Date
The highly anticipated sequel receives its official name and filming schedule, with Shuri taking center stage as Wakanda faces new challenges without its former protector.
Marvel's third Wakanda installment has broken months of silence with major production updates. The Film and Television Industry Alliance reveals cameras will start rolling June 15, 2026, in London studios.
The sequel carries the official title "Shadows of Wakanda." Production documents describe a storyline that "will explore Wakanda's vulnerability after T'Challa's death, with Shuri stepping up as both warrior and leader." Letitia Wright returns to lead the franchise.
Shuri's Continued Leadership
Wright's character took over the mantle in Wakanda Forever after losing both her brother and mother. The new film confirms Shuri survives the upcoming Avengers films, assuming the timeline places this sequel after those events.
F1 driver Damson Idris recently addressed casting rumors. "I am thankful to the fans. Of course, it's rumors, but I love that movie. I love the world," he told Variety. Idris could potentially join as an older version of T'Challa's son, introduced in the previous film's post-credits scene.
Cast and Production Details
Denzel Washington joins as the only confirmed newcomer. Director Ryan Coogler wrote the role specifically for the Oscar winner. Danai Gurira likely returns as Okoye, alongside Michaela Coel's Aneka and Florence Kasumba's Ayo.
Winston Duke's M'Baku may also return, depending on his fate in the December Avengers release. The production timeline suggests a 2027 theatrical release, though Marvel hasn't announced official dates.
