Marvel Studios May Cancel Blade Solo Film for Midnight Sons
After six years of production delays, insider reports suggest Marvel Studios has scrapped the standalone Blade movie. The vampire hunter might instead debut in the upcoming Midnight Sons project.
Six years of constant delays have reportedly led Marvel Studios to cancel the standalone Blade movie entirely. Industry insider Jeff Sneider revealed on the Hot Mic Podcast that the studio plans to introduce Mahershala Ali's vampire hunter through the Midnight Sons film instead.
The claims remain unverified, but the project's troubled history lends weight to these reports. Even Ali himself appears to have lost faith in the solo venture.
Ali Shows Growing Frustration With Marvel's Approach
Marvel announced Ali's casting as Blade nearly six and a half years ago. For years, the actor reassured fans the project remained active, offering hopeful updates about its progress.
That optimism has clearly faded. During a recent Vogue Off the Cuff interview, when asked about his MCU film count alongside Scarlett Johansson, Ali responded with obvious irritation: "Leave me out of it."
His reluctance to discuss development updates signals a major shift in confidence regarding the solo film's future.
Midnight Sons Offers Natural MCU Home
The Midnight Sons debuted in Marvel Comics during 1992 as a supernatural superhero collective. The roster includes Blade, Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, and Morbius among its rotating membership.
These characters tackle Marvel's mystical threats, dealing with horror, occult forces, and cosmic darkness. Their alliances form through necessity rather than friendship, creating a grittier tone than typical Marvel stories.
Major villains like Satan, Dormammu, and Mephisto - who recently appeared in Ironheart - provide ready-made antagonists for MCU adaptation. The team concept offers Marvel a perfect vehicle for introducing supernatural elements while avoiding the pitfalls that have plagued Blade's solo development.
