Noah Schnapp Reveals Poster Almost Spoiled Will's Shocking Twist
Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp opens up about a close call with a major season 5 spoiler. Discover how a simple promotional poster almost revealed one of the final season's biggest secrets about Will Byers' incredible new abilities before the show even aired.
The cat's officially out of the bag, and it was let out by none other than Will Byers himself, played by Noah Schnapp. Following the release of the final season's first volume, it's now confirmed that all that mysterious neck-grabbing was leading somewhere big: Will possesses powers similar to those of Vecna and Eleven. But according to the actor, this massive reveal was almost blown by a piece of promotional art.
A Close Call with Marketing
In a recent chat with Glamour, Schnapp discussed his character's pivotal new development and how the show's own marketing nearly gave the game away ahead of time. The poster in question was carefully designed to hint at the changes without being too obvious. “It’s always supposed to kind of feel the vibe of the season and give an essence of where everyone’s characters stand in that era and chapter of our story,” he said. “So yeah, you can see a strength in him on there. And obviously, they didn’t want to spoil it with any blood or anything, but as close as you can get. Everything is very intentional that we do.”
While not a dead giveaway, the poster's imagery is telling in hindsight. Placing Will directly beneath Vecna subtly points to the parallel abilities he was about to discover. It was a calculated risk to tease the audience with a clue hidden in plain sight.
Redefining Will's Strength
Reflecting on his character's evolution and this season's huge shift, Schnapp shared his thoughts on the breakthrough and what it signifies for Will. He pushed back against the idea that Will's past experiences made him weak. “I think people mistake fear for weakness. Will has had a lot of fear through the years because of what he’s had to endure, but that doesn’t mean he’s weak,” Schnapp stated.
He continued, explaining how Will's struggles have forged his resilience. “He’s pushed through that and come out stronger, and he does it scared every time. He always comes back, and he never crumbles. So that is his strength, and I think he shows that in the end, that he is stronger than we all think.” This transformation marks a significant turning point for a character who has been through so much.
What's Next for Hawkins
This development is undeniably a massive game-changer for the series. With the re-emergence of Eleven's old acquaintance, Kali, it seems the Duffer Brothers are setting the stage for an epic final confrontation. The remaining episodes are poised to deliver a massive throwdown. Fans will have to wait and see if the combined power of Hawkins’ heros will be enough to finally take down Vecna. The story continues when the next batch of episodes drops on Christmas Day, leading up to the grand series finale on New Year’s Eve.
