The highly anticipated sci-fi thriller starring Jacob Elordi faces another delay as Disney shuffles its release calendar, moving the post-apocalyptic adaptation to late summer 2026.

Disney and 20th Century Studios have pushed back the release of Ridley Scott's upcoming science fiction thriller. The film, based on Peter Heller's acclaimed 2012 novel, was originally set for an earlier debut but will now hit theaters in late summer 2026.

Scott announced last November that his next project following the success of his gladiator sequel would tackle Heller's dystopian story. The narrative unfolds in a world devastated by a deadly pandemic that has wiped out most of humanity.

Post-Apocalyptic Survival Story

The plot centers on a solitary survivor who shares his isolated existence with only his faithful canine companion and a single firearm for protection. Their quiet routine gets disrupted when the man picks up a mysterious radio transmission suggesting that hostile forces may be approaching their sanctuary.

Jacob Elordi has been cast in the lead role, marking another major studio project for the rising star. The actor's involvement adds significant star power to Scott's latest venture into the science fiction genre.

Studio Schedule Reshuffling

The delay appears to be part of a broader calendar adjustment by the studio. Ready or Not 2: Here I Come has been moved up to fill a March 2026 slot, creating space in the summer lineup for other releases.

This scheduling change gives Scott additional time to complete production and post-production work on what promises to be a visually striking adaptation of Heller's haunting tale of survival and hope in a broken world.
