Ritchson Lands Vietnam War Hero Role in Stallone-Produced Film
The Reacher star will portray Medal of Honor recipient Mike Thornton in an action drama about a harrowing rescue mission during the Vietnam conflict, with filming starting in Australia.
The Reacher star has secured his next major action role. Alan Ritchson will portray Navy SEAL Mike Thornton in a Vietnam War drama backed by Sylvester Stallone through Amazon MGM Studios. Production kicks off shortly in Queensland, Australia.
Medal of Honor Story
Thornton earned America's highest military decoration for pulling a wounded comrade from enemy fire during combat operations. The movie centers on what the studio calls "the incredible real-life struggle for survival in the hostile waters of the South China Sea."
Patrick Hughes directs the project after helming Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard. Joe Cole and Hoa Xuande round out the cast in supporting roles.
Ritchson's Action Pipeline
This war film represents another step up for Ritchson following his breakout as Jack Reacher. He's building an impressive action resume with multiple projects lined up.
Hughes and Ritchson will reunite for War Machine, a sci-fi thriller hitting Netflix March 6, 2026. Dennis Quaid and Jai Courtney join that cast. The actor also returns for Reacher's fourth season plus a Frances Neagley spinoff, both expected in 2026.
Motor City adds another dimension to his upcoming slate. The 1970s revenge thriller from director Potsy Ponciroli follows a framed ex-convict seeking justice. Ritchson plays the silent protagonist in what promises to be a grittier departure from his recent roles.
