The Stranger Things star has reportedly dropped out of consideration for the live-action Rapunzel role, with new frontrunners emerging in Disney's casting search.

The casting drama surrounding Disney's upcoming live-action Tangled movie has taken another unexpected turn. Sadie Sink, the Stranger Things actress who many believed was the leading candidate to play Rapunzel, has apparently been removed from consideration entirely.

Industry insider Jeff Sneider recently shared updated information about the casting process, and notably left Sink's name off his list of potential candidates. This marks a significant shift from earlier speculation that positioned the young actress as Disney's preferred choice after other high-profile names like Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande were reportedly ruled out.

McKenna Grace Emerges as New Leading Candidate

According to the latest reports, McKenna Grace from "The Regretting You" has moved to the front of the pack in Disney's search for their live-action princess. Grace was previously mentioned alongside Sink as one of four actresses being considered for the coveted role, but now appears to be the studio's top preference.

The other actresses who were part of the original group of contenders included Emma Myers from "Wednesday" and Isabel May from "1883." However, most of these names have seemingly faded from current discussions about the project.

Fresh Face Joins the Competition

Sneider also revealed that Freya Skye, who recently appeared in "Zombies 4," has entered the conversation as another potential Rapunzel. The insider suggested that Disney executives are impressed with Skye's work and are seriously evaluating her for the part.

"I do, I have heard that Zombies 4 actress Freya Skye is amongst the actresses being considered for the role and Disney does like her. That said, McKenna Grace is still the favorite amongst insiders," Sneider stated.

Production Timeline and Uncertainty

With filming expected to begin next year in Spain, Disney will need to make their final casting decision relatively soon. However, the studio has remained completely silent about the project publicly, leaving fans to rely on industry rumors and speculation.

The constantly shifting reports about potential casting choices highlight just how fluid the situation remains. What seemed like a done deal with Sink just weeks ago has completely changed, demonstrating that nothing is certain until Disney makes an official announcement.
