Stranger Things Cast Breaks Down During Emotional Final Scene Wrap
Netflix's behind-the-scenes documentary captures the tearful moments as the young actors said goodbye after nearly a decade together, with Finn Wolfhard delivering a speech that left everyone sobbing.
Netflix dropped its Stranger Things documentary, and while it won't satisfy fans hoping for a secret ninth episode, it delivers something equally powerful: raw footage of the cast's final moments together. One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 shows the emotional wrap of the series finale's last scene.
A Decade-Long Journey Comes Full Circle
The documentary captures Will, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Max playing Dungeons and Dragons in the Wheelers' basement one final time. After cameras stopped rolling, cast and crew gathered around as Finn Wolfhard stepped forward to address everyone.
"I started this show when I was 12 with these guys, and it's gonna sound sad, but I didn't feel like I had a lot of friends when I was a kid," Wolfhard told the group while his co-stars stood behind him in tears. "When I talked to the Duffers for the first time, it felt like I had friends. And now I have so many more friends."
Creators Pay Tribute to Their Young Stars
The waterworks continued as series creators Ross and Matt Duffer took their turn at the microphone. Matt Duffer addressed the young actors directly: "To the cast, people fell in love with this show because they fell in love with you. Thank you for giving so much of yourselves to this story, for all the laughs, the tears, for being the little brothers and sisters we never had. You're family, we love you always."
Ross Duffer added his own reflection on the bittersweet moment. "I think everyone was surprised by how emotional it was to say goodbye. We really felt like Mike in the final moments of the show. It's just so hard to let go, but you have to. You have to move on."
The Final Goodbye
After the speeches ended, confetti cannons exploded and everyone embraced. The wider cast showed up too, including Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Joe Keery, and Maya Hawke.
Millie Bobby Brown had already wrapped her final scene as Eleven earlier, likely because her character faces a dramatic fate in the season's middle episodes. Her goodbye was equally emotional: "It feels like it's a part of me that I'm leaving behind as well. It's not just a character, it's half my life. I'm not ready to let go."
The documentary is streaming on Netflix right now.
