Damon Casts Doubt on Ocean's 14 Return Plans
The Bourne star throws cold water on franchise revival hopes, admitting he hasn't seen any screenplay while his co-star pushes forward with production plans for the heist sequel.
The actor behind Linus Caldwell just delivered news that Ocean's fans won't want to hear. Matt Damon threw cold water on the much-anticipated franchise revival during a Netflix podcast appearance, revealing a stark disconnect between public statements and behind-the-scenes reality.
While George Clooney has been making the rounds promoting Ocean's 14 as a done deal, Damon painted a different picture entirely. Speaking on Still Watching Netflix, the Bourne star admitted he keeps "hearing about it" but nothing concrete has materialized. No script. No official confirmation. Just industry chatter.
The Pickpocket's Uncertain Future
Damon's Linus Caldwell became a franchise staple across three films, the skilled pickpocket who could slip into Danny Ocean's crew seamlessly. His character arc spanned Ocean's Eleven through Thirteen, making him one of the series' most recognizable faces.
Clooney recently outlined his vision for the fourth installment, describing a plot where the aging crew confronts their limitations. "There was something about the idea that we're too old to do what we used to do, but we're still smart enough to know how to get away with something," Clooney explained weeks ago, targeting late 2026 for production.
Nolan's Epic Takes Priority
Damon's immediate focus lies elsewhere. Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey consumed much of his recent attention, leaving him still processing the experience. "I'm still kind of unpacking it, but it did have a profound effect on me," he reflected.
The collaboration with Nolan felt monumental for Damon. "Doing The Odyssey this last year, it felt like my one chance in my life to make a David Lean movie, that I was making the last big movie on film that I was ever going to get to make."
Affleck Wants In
Despite the uncertainty, Damon revealed one amusing development. Ben Affleck has been lobbying for a cameo role, repeatedly asking about joining the franchise. "He's like, 'I've been trying to get in these movies.' He goes, 'How many of these have you done?' Maybe we can put him in a cameo as Ben Affleck."
The disconnect between Clooney's confidence and Damon's hesitation exposes the gap between Hollywood hype and actual development. "You know, we have to get a script, we have to get, you know, there's a lot of ducks we have to get in a row," Damon explained. "I do know that everybody would love to do it. You know, the group of people would love to get back together."
