DC Studios head confirms the new Batman screenplay remains unfinished, with no timeline for completion. The studio refuses to compete with Matt Reeves' upcoming sequel.

Batman fans face an extended wait for the DCU's version of the Dark Knight. James Gunn delivered sobering news about The Brave and the Bold, confirming the screenplay isn't complete and offering no concrete timeline for when it might be.

When pressed by fans on social media about release expectations, Gunn was blunt. "I'm dependent on when there's an actionable script ready so there is no way of me guessing this," he wrote on Threads. "Also, frankly, we're well into Batman 2, and I wouldn't want to cloud the Batsphere until after that."

No Dual Batman Strategy

The DC Studios co-CEO made his position crystal clear when fans questioned his commitment to the character. After one follower accused him of "undervaluing" Bruce Wayne's importance to the DCU, Gunn fired back decisively.

"I'm not at all. I think both Batman and WW are incredibly important," he responded. "But I'm also not going to have two Batman movies come out in the same year."

This strategy means Robert Pattinson's Batman sequel takes priority. Matt Reeves' follow-up hits theaters October 1, 2027, featuring Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent and Scarlett Johansson in an undisclosed role. Colin Farrell returns as Penguin, though only briefly.

Timeline Reality Check

With Gunn's no-overlap policy firmly established, The Brave and the Bold can't arrive before 2028. Maybe later, depending on script development.

One fan found the silver lining, noting that Reeves' Batman provides "some kind of Bruce Wayne fix" while giving the DCU time to "perfect those scripts." Gunn agreed completely. "Totally true," he replied.

The Reeves Batman exists outside DCU continuity as an Elseworlds project, similar to the Joaquin Phoenix Joker films. This separation allows both versions to coexist without narrative conflicts.

Meanwhile, the DCU moves forward with other projects. Supergirl represents the next major release, giving Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El her first solo adventure after appearing in the upcoming Superman film.
