Disney's Jasmine Voice Actor Calls KPop Demon Hunters Star
Arden Cho received an unexpected two-hour phone call from Linda Larkin, Disney's original Princess Jasmine voice, who praised her performance in Netflix's hit animated film.
Arden Cho got the surprise of her life when Disney's Princess Jasmine called to congratulate her on her voice acting work. The KPop Demon Hunters star shared the incredible story during her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
"A couple months after the movie came out, Linda Larkin, the voice of Princess Jasmine, called me and we had a two-hour phone conversation," Cho revealed to Fallon. "I put it on speaker, because, for the first hour, I was like, 'Is this really happening? Am I talking with Jasmine?'"
Disney Legend Reaches Out
Larkin started her voice acting journey in 1992 when she became the speaking voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney's animated Aladdin. That film made history as the first animated movie to hit the $500 million mark worldwide. She continued bringing Jasmine to life in the direct-to-video sequels The Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
The veteran voice actor had nothing but praise for Cho's performance. "Well, she wanted to congratulate me, and she actually told me [that], as a voice actor, she was really impressed with my work with Rumi, and she loved the depth and the layers and all of it. I think at one point we were both crying. And she was like, 'You're gonna be a modern-day princess!'"
Netflix's Biggest Hit
KPop Demon Hunters tells the story of Huntr/x, a girl group that uses their vocal powers to battle demonic forces threatening the world. The group faces off against the Saja boys, a rival boy band hiding their true demonic nature. Cho voices Rumi, the lead singer whose mixed heritage as the daughter of a demon father and demon hunter mother creates compelling character depth.
The animated film shattered Netflix records, becoming the platform's most-watched original movie ever with 500 million views before 2025 ended. Fans won't have to wait forever for more content. KPop Demon Hunters 2 is confirmed for release sometime in 2029, though the streaming service hasn't announced a specific date yet.
