The highly anticipated crossover movie featuring characters from multiple Star Wars series has been put on hold, leaving fans wondering when they'll see their favorite heroes unite against the galaxy's greatest threat.

Dave Filoni's ambitious Star Wars crossover film has been pushed to the sidelines, despite plans to unite characters from across the galaxy's most popular series. The project would have brought together heroes from Skeleton Crew alongside fan favorites from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka in an epic showdown against Grand Admiral Thrawn.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms the untitled movie is now sitting on the back burner. Originally announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2023, the film was designed to bridge the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Filoni had expressed enthusiasm about the project's direction.

Creative Vision Takes Shape

"Because I've been writing Ahsoka season 2, things have clicked, and I have a much better idea about where things are going to go," Filoni said about the movie in 2024. "I will say, I have an opening I really like quite a bit, I'm very excited about it for that picture. I'm excited about the potential of just doing it."

The delay comes as Filoni transitions into new leadership responsibilities. Previously Lucasfilm's chief creative officer, he now serves as co-president alongside Lynwen Brennan. The duo is stepping into roles previously held by Kathleen Kennedy, who led the studio for 14 years after Disney's acquisition in 2012.

What's Next for Star Wars Cinema

Two other major Star Wars films are moving forward. The Mandalorian and Grogu continues the beloved Disney Plus series story, with Jon Favreau directing. Meanwhile, Star Wars: Starfighter presents an entirely original narrative featuring Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, and Mia Goth under Shawn Levy's direction.

The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters May 22. Star Wars: Starfighter follows on May 28, 2027. Both projects represent different approaches to expanding the franchise's cinematic universe while Filoni's crossover epic waits in the wings.
