Netflix Hit 'Adolescence' Could Return for Second Season
Stephen Graham drops hints about potential future for the award-winning series that became Netflix's second-biggest English-language show ever with 142.6 million views.
Netflix's breakout drama 'Adolescence' may get a second season, according to star Stephen Graham who recently teased fans about the show's future. The series, which follows Owen Cooper as a young boy facing murder charges for his classmate's death, has become a global phenomenon since its debut.
Golden Globes Success Sparks Renewal Talk
Graham, who plays the accused boy's father and co-created the show with Jack Thorne, remained coy when pressed about season two at the Golden Globes. "I cannot answer that question because it's somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack's mind, and we'll pull it out in three or four years, so stay tuned," he told reporters.
The show dominated the Golden Globes ceremony, taking home four awards including Best Limited Series. Graham, Cooper, and Erin Doherty all won acting honors for their performances.
Production Company Explores Options
Renewal discussions surfaced earlier in April 2025 when Plan B Entertainment co-president Dede Gardner revealed the team was "thinking about how they can widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA [and] not be repetitive."
The series has achieved remarkable success on the platform, ranking as Netflix's second-biggest English-language TV show of all time with 142.6 million views. Season one explored the dangerous rise of online manosphere culture.
Critical Acclaim and Celebrity Fans
The show has earned widespread praise from critics and unexpected fans like video game creator Hideo Kojima. "A masterful fusion of meticulously calculated one-shot cinematography and direction that draws out the show's core themes," Kojima said. "It vividly exposes the fear and anguish experienced by both children in their formative years and the families who watch over them."
While the exact direction of any future seasons remains unclear, the combination of critical success, audience numbers, and industry recognition suggests Netflix has strong incentive to continue the story.
