Amanda Seyfried's relentless campaign for another ABBA-filled adventure finally pays off as the beloved musical series gets a new filmmaker at the helm.

Amanda Seyfried's persistent push for another ABBA musical has finally gained momentum. Paul Feig will direct the third installment of the hit franchise, bringing his recent success from The Housemaid to the Greek island setting that captivated audiences worldwide.

Feig's latest project with Seyfried broke Sydney Sweeney's disappointing box office run in 2025, delivering a major win for Lionsgate. The casting news emerged during Seyfried's conversation with The Testament of Ann Lee director Mona Fastvold, who had expressed her own interest in taking on the musical project.

Seyfried's Unwavering Push for Another Musical

The actress has campaigned tirelessly for this third chapter. Despite her general skepticism about sequels, which she believes often prioritize profit over storytelling, this particular franchise holds special meaning for her.

"I will say, there's a little bit of fatigue with sequels. I want original content. I think it's really scary and brave to do it. It's not scary and not very brave to do sequels. It's just for money and it's frustrating. Then again, I'd do Mamma Mia! 3 in a heartbeat," Seyfried explained.

The previous two films featured powerhouse performers including Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Cher. Whether this star-studded cast will return remains unclear.

Sophie's Story Could Come Full Circle

Plot details stay locked away. Seyfried admits she hasn't seen a script yet. But she's shared ideas about exploring motherhood and child-rearing in this next chapter, mirroring Donna's journey from the original film.

Fan casting has already begun. Many want Sabrina Carpenter to play Sophie's potential daughter. Seyfried welcomes the suggestion: "You know what? Old age makeup for me. That's what it will be. I'm an actor. I'll do it. If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I'll make it happen. It's fine. I'm a big fan."

The Housemaid's commercial success might provide the boost needed to fast-track production on this highly anticipated sequel.
