Ready or Not 2 Gets Brutal R Rating for Extreme Gore
The MPA has slapped Ready or Not 2: Here I Come with an R rating for intense bloody violence and gore, signaling the sequel will push boundaries even further than its predecessor.
The Motion Picture Association just dropped the official rating for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, and horror fans are getting exactly what they hoped for. The sequel earned a hard R rating for "strong bloody violence, gore, pervasive language, and brief drug use." Translation? This movie's going to be absolutely brutal.
Samara Weaving returns as Grace MacCaullay, the bride who survived her wedding night from hell in the 2019 original. This time around, Grace gets dragged back into the deadly family game when her sister Faith becomes the next target. The twisted hunting ritual that nearly killed her once is far from over.
Bloodier Than Before
The first Ready or Not also carried an R rating, but for slightly different reasons: "violence, bloody images, language throughout, and some drug use." The sequel's rating specifically calls out "strong bloody violence" and "gore," suggesting filmmakers cranked up the carnage significantly. Shawn Hatosy, who stars alongside Weaving, told reporters months ago: "There is no ceiling to how gory it can get with these guys."
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back, working again with writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. The creative team clearly isn't holding back this time.
Star-Studded Cast Joins the Mayhem
Kathryn Newton plays Grace's sister Faith, joining a cast that reads like a horror fan's dream lineup. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Kevin Durand, Néstor Carbonell, Olivia Cheng, and legendary director David Cronenberg all have roles. The film hits theaters March 27 through Fox Searchlight Pictures.
Lucky festival-goers at South by Southwest will catch early screenings before the wide release. The story picks up just hours after the original ended, with Grace discovering the nightmare game has multiple levels. Four rival families are hunting both sisters for control of a mysterious Council that apparently runs everything.
Higher Stakes, Deadlier Game
According to the official plot summary, Grace must survive, protect Faith, and claim the "High Seat of the Council that controls the world." The Le Domas family attack was apparently just the beginning of something much bigger and more dangerous.
The sequel promises to expand the mythology while delivering the extreme violence that made the original a cult hit. With that R rating locked in, Ready or Not 2 looks set to push every boundary the first film established.
