The Marriage Story stars are back together for James Gray's Paper Tiger, a crime drama about brothers chasing the American Dream who clash with Russian organized crime.

The dynamic duo from Noah Baumbach's acclaimed drama is joining forces once again. Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver will share the screen in James Gray's upcoming crime thriller Paper Tiger, set for release in 2026.

The film centers on two siblings pursuing their version of the American Dream, only to find themselves entangled with Russian organized crime figures. Miles Teller rounds out the main cast in what promises to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2026.

Cast Changes and Production Details

The project underwent significant casting shifts during development. Originally, the lineup included Driver alongside Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong. However, when scheduling conflicts forced both Hathaway and Strong to exit the production, Johansson and Teller stepped in to fill the roles.

Filming kicked off in early June 2025 in Denville Township, New Jersey. While no official release date has been announced, the movie represents the second time Johansson and Driver have worked together as co-leads.

Marriage Story's Lasting Impact

Their previous collaboration remains a career highlight for both performers. Marriage Story, which followed a couple navigating a complicated bicoastal divorce involving child custody, earned widespread critical praise and multiple award nominations.

The Netflix drama secured six Academy Award nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Actor. Laura Dern took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. With a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film stands as Johansson's highest-rated work to date.

Critics praised the movie's compassionate portrayal of a dissolving relationship, calling it one of director Noah Baumbach's finest achievements. The audience response was equally positive, with an 85% audience score reflecting widespread viewer appreciation.

Johansson's Enthusiasm for the Partnership

During the September premiere of her directorial debut Eleanor the Great in New York City, Johansson expressed genuine excitement about working with Driver again. She described him as both an exceptional person and an extraordinary performer.

"I love Adam as a person and he is an absolutely extraordinary actor. If I could make every movie with Adam Driver, I would," she told reporters at the event.

In a separate interview, when asked which character she'd want to revisit for a day, Johansson playfully referenced their Marriage Story dynamic: "Oh man, that's really tough! I'd probably have one last argument with Adam Driver. I'd maybe have a few things left that I'd want to tell him, just to 'follow up'."
