Star-Lord Actor Reveals Character's Secret Earth Life Between MCU Films
The Guardians of the Galaxy star opens up about what Peter Quill has been doing since leaving his superhero team, plus his surprising dream role that isn't in space.
The actor behind one of Marvel's most beloved space heroes just dropped some major details about what his character has been up to since stepping away from the superhero life. Chris Pratt, who brought Peter Quill to life across multiple MCU films, recently shared his thoughts on Star-Lord's current situation during a promotional interview for his new sci-fi thriller Mercy.
Since audiences last saw him in the third Guardians film, Quill made the tough choice to leave his team behind and return to Earth. The decision marked a significant shift for the character who spent years protecting the galaxy alongside his ragtag family of misfits.
What Star-Lord Is Really Doing Now
According to Pratt, his character isn't exactly living the quiet life fans might expect. When asked about Quill's current activities, the actor painted a picture that's both humorous and surprisingly relatable.
"Probably denying the fact that he was responsible for the death of Iron Man, while simultaneously trying to convince people that he was a superhero at some point. Probably catching up on the music. From '70s pop all the way until he came back, there's a lot of music to catch up on," Pratt explained.
The music reference connects directly to one of Star-Lord's defining characteristics. His famous Walkman and mixtapes served as emotional anchors throughout the Guardians trilogy, representing his connection to both his mother and Earth.
Future MCU Plans Remain Uncertain
While Pratt expressed genuine interest in returning to the Marvel universe, no concrete plans exist for Star-Lord's immediate comeback. The actor did reference a promise made during the Guardians saga about the character's eventual return.
"We made a promise with Guardians of the Galaxy that Star-Lord would return – I think I'd really like to make good on that promise. That would be awesome," he stated.
The timing raises questions about potential appearances in upcoming Avengers projects. With Avengers: Doomsday scheduled for December 2026, speculation continues about which characters might join the massive ensemble cast.
Pratt's Surprising Dream Role
When the conversation shifted to other superhero characters he'd like to portray, Pratt's answer caught many off guard. Instead of another cosmic hero, he named a much grittier character as his top choice.
"Punisher. He was my favorite comic book hero growing up, so I've always loved Punisher...He was so good. Maybe Punisher 2099," the actor revealed.
Pratt acknowledged that Jon Bernthal currently holds the Punisher role but noted his own experience playing similar characters. He pointed to his work on The Terminal List, where he portrays James Reece, describing it as getting to "play a version of Punisher."
The original Guardians team isn't currently slated for Avengers: Doomsday, though the film promises to feature Marvel's largest cast to date. Whether any of the beloved space heroes will make cameo appearances remains to be seen.
