Timothée Chalamet Wins Golden Globe for Marty Supreme Performance
The 28-year-old actor claimed Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the 83rd Golden Globes for his ping-pong maestro role, beating out George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio in a competitive category.
Timothée Chalamet secured the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy at Sunday night's 83rd annual ceremony. His winning performance came as Marty Mauser, a power-obsessed ping-pong champion in Josh Safdie's "Marty Supreme."
The project consumed seven years of Chalamet's life. He carried ping-pong tables to every film set during that period. "Everything I was working on, it was this secret: I had a table in London while I was making Wonka," Chalamet revealed. "On Dune 2, I had a table in Budapest, Jordan. I had a table in Abu Dhabi."
Competitive Field of Nominees
Chalamet faced serious competition in his category. Ethan Hawke earned recognition for "Blue Moon." George Clooney received a nomination for "Jay Kelly." Jesse Plemons competed for "Bugonia," while Lee Byung-Hun represented "No Other Choice." Leonardo DiCaprio rounded out the field with "One Battle After Another."
"This category is stacked. I look up to all of you, thank you," Chalamet said during his acceptance speech. "To Josh Safdie, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for this role. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for this portrait, for your mind, for your worldview."
Personal Acknowledgments
The win followed Chalamet's Critics' Choice Award victory for the same role. During that earlier ceremony, he thanked girlfriend Kylie Jenner publicly. "Thank you to my partner of three years. Thank you for our foundation. I love you, I couldn't do this without you," he said.
Sunday's Golden Globe speech echoed similar sentiments. "I'd be lying if I didn't say those moments didn't make this moment that much sweeter for my parents, for my partner, I love you," Chalamet declared.
Career Ambitions
Chalamet spoke candidly about his professional goals at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards. "I'm really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don't usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats," he stated.
"Marty Supreme" premiered October 6th at the New York Film Festival during an unannounced screening. Safdie and Chalamet introduced the film before co-stars Tyler, the Creator and Gwyneth Paltrow appeared for the post-screening discussion.
