Tom Hardy Reveals His Dream Star Wars Return Plans
The Venom star opens up about his favorite franchise role and why he's desperate to get back into stormtrooper armor for future Star Wars projects.
Tom Hardy's Hollywood journey reads like a script itself. The British actor launched his career with a bang, landing roles in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down and HBO's Band of Brothers in the same year. Then came the rough patch. A series of forgettable films nearly derailed his promising start, leaving many wondering if he'd peaked too early.
The 2010s changed everything. Hardy clawed his way back with a string of memorable performances, cementing his status as a blockbuster heavyweight. His resume now spans multiple major franchises, from stepping into Mel Gibson's boots in Mad Max: Fury Road to playing both sides of the superhero coin as DC's Bane and Marvel's Venom.
The Franchise He'd Return to Tomorrow
During a recent interview with The Playlist, Hardy discussed his various franchise appearances. When asked about his favorite, his answer caught many off guard. "I love Star Wars," Hardy said. "My favorite character is Han Solo. No, I'd be well up for doing more Star Wars. That was great. I've always wanted to be in a Star Wars film. So playing a stormtrooper was fantastic."
Here's where it gets tricky. Most fans can't recall seeing Hardy in any Star Wars movie, and there's good reason for that confusion. The actor filmed a cameo as a stormtrooper for The Last Jedi, the second film in Disney's sequel trilogy. His scene involved an unknowing encounter with John Boyega's Finn, who was disguised as an Imperial officer and even gave Hardy's character a playful slap on the rear.
Celebrity Cameos Galore
Hardy wasn't alone in donning the iconic white armor. The Disney trilogy became a playground for celebrity cameos. Daniel Craig played the stormtrooper Rey first uses her Jedi mind tricks on in The Force Awakens. That same film featured appearances from composer Michael Giacchino, producer Nigel Godrich, and director Kevin Smith.
The Last Jedi went even bigger with its hidden stars. Prince William and Prince Harry both suited up as stormtroopers alongside Hardy. The Rise of Skywalker took the cameo game to absurd levels, though many of those appearances are better left unmentioned.
The Scene That Never Was
Unfortunately for Hardy, his moment in the galaxy far, far away hit the cutting room floor. His stormtrooper scene was removed from The Last Jedi's theatrical release, meaning his dream of appearing in a Star Wars film remains technically unfulfilled.
Given Disney's aggressive expansion of the Star Wars universe across films and streaming series, Hardy might get his wish sooner than expected. The franchise shows no signs of slowing down, and his enthusiasm for returning suggests he'd jump at the chance to trade his Venom symbiote for stormtrooper armor once again.
