Zack Snyder Made a Small Movie With His Own Money, and TIFF Just Squeezed It In
TIFF has added a last-minute special screening of The Last Photograph, the independently financed revenge film Zack Snyder shot in Colombia, Iceland and Los Angeles. It premieres 6:30pm on Sunday, Sept. 13.
The venue is the John Bassett Theatre at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, TIFF's new screening space. The film stars Stuart Martin and Fra Fee as an ex-DEA agent hunting revenge through a South American jungle where the terrain and his own head are equally hostile.

What is unusual about it
Snyder has spent twenty years working at a scale where the budget is the story — DC, Rebel Moon, Netflix money, franchise arithmetic. This is a small independently financed film with two actors he already trusts and no studio attached, and he has talked about it as a personal one.
"The idea of taking a camera in hand and simply making a movie in an intimate way is very appealing to me," Snyder said when the project was announced, calling it "a meditation of life and death, embodying some of the trials that I have experienced in my own life."
A festival slot added at the last minute usually means one of two things: a film that finished late, or a film somebody wants seen before it goes to market. Sept. 13 in Toronto.
